Wetaskiwin Show n' Shine

It did'nt take me long to realize , how much effort and organization has gone into Wetaskiwins S&S . Held every year for the past 8 years at the provincial museum . Who ever came up with the idea to hold it here was thinking ! They have enough room to park over 1,000 rods and antiques from 1890s to the present . At the end of the show every car from every era takes a drive around the property starting with the oldest and finishing with afew 2007s .

It is a large area to travel around , but its real easy getting around . Thanks to the History Road Touring cart , that has passenger loading areas all over . You can go from one area to the other with relative ease . Which I could see was a wonderful idea , if you have small children and of course the elderly .

After alot of complaining from the locals , the Reynolds Musuem has put together a display of old vehicles from as I was told their warehouse . Appropiately called " Diamonds in the dust " . You would be hard pressed to ever witness a more unique and aging , unrestored collection of vehicles in your life . From the moment you step foot in the " Showin Off " tent ,it feels like your in a time machine of sorts .

Have you ever wondered what material they used back in 1915., to replace the rusty body panels , fender skirts , or even doors . If you guessed paper mache your right !Yes as incredible as it sounds that was the carbon fibre at the time .

Can you picture a cow catcher as a option on a Cadillac, complete with bell . Luxury was'nt an option as much as convience or practicality was essential back in 1928. The roads were terrible back then, if you could call them roads . . Long trips must have been murder , I just can't see how most of these vehicles held together for as long as they did .

Incredible as this may sound but after going to this event 1 hr. South of Edmonton , I really feel like I learned alot about the horseless carriage . What we make jokes about now, really was cutting edge stuff back then . It is really interesting and amazing how inventive people were at the time . The time and effort that was put into vehicles back then was just amazing . Considering the tools and instruments they had to work with.

.

What hot rodder does'nt enjoy aircraft . And they have quite an assortment of old and new . The museum itself has a large building towards the back of the property , that houses a large assortment of propeller and jet engine aircraft . They also have afew unrestored aircraft in the' Showin Off " tent , that are ancient .

I highly recommend you take in the S&S at Wetaskiwin's Reynolds museum . There is no doubt they have something for every one of all ages and gender . And if you want to see everything they have to offer . It will take you all day ! Reynolds museum truly is "showin off" our rich Alberta heritage.
