July 06 to 08 2007 , Castrol Raceway , Edmonton AB., Canada
Things were Rockin at the Rocky Mtn. Nationals. And from the first rounds of qualifying Friday night to the finals Sunday HRC was there . I hope you enjoy the largest posted collection of photos on the web ! You can always count on a good show when you go to a IHRA event . Though nitro rules I have put together a good collection of nostalgia funny cars , nitro bikes , top alcohol funny cars , pro mods , and pro stocks . I hope you enjoy the wild top fuel in your face action ! Or the great action from the stands with day time flames as they set track records in ET or mph.! This is HRC's 5th year , and I think I know what you love ! Lots and lots of drag race action ! Well you got it !
For all race results go to IHRA.com .
The weather hung in there , even though it did drizzle off and on . And on Sunday it was a race to finish . You could see a cloud form at the end of the track. It looked tense waiting for the final round of top fuel eliminator to get under way . A down pour at the top end would have stopped the action . But the rain held off for 20 minutes and it was a rap .
I choose this Yellow 2007 Corvette Z06 Pro Mod as the sharpest car of the race , even though it failed to qualify for Sunday , better luck next year .
The top alcohol funny cars were making huge horsepower, putting down high 5 sec passes . Thomas pulled off the win in his Ethenol powered Impala SS, when the other lane red lit .
The Pro Mods are one of the funnest classes in drag racing . Showing off 2 different types of power plants , nitrous or blower . In the finals it was Corvette against Camaro , with the Corvette taking it at the top end.
Its always a tight race when the Pro Stocks are racing . If you dont have the good reaction on these 800 cubic inch cars. Your hard pressed making it up at the top end. And that was the story today . With Patrick taking the final 6.418 to a losing 6.419 , wow thats show biz !
There was only one car that put down a 4sec.pass in top fuel funny car . But it was the 4 and 5 qualifyers that made it to the finals . Creasy got out of shape almost hit the wall . That was all Haddock in the H57 car needed as he won his first National event . Way to go !
Lifes a bitch for the Tim Hortons car , but it would'nt be the first time a sub 5 second run is'nt good enough to qualify for Sunday . But its a game of thousands of seconds and 8 cars were firmly in place with 4 second passes . In the finals O Neill in the Lucas oil car got out first but lost traction . McMillen driving the Torco fuel car made no mistakes taking the win with a time of 4.7 at 291!
To sum things up , I sure enjoyed taking photos from the stands on Saturday . It was a sunny day but not to hot , which made for some great drag racing . It was nice sitting down and bumping into freinds I have made at Edmonton over the last 5 years .
I hope you enjoy the photos , thank you Hot Rod Canada.com / Maxxtork Media 2007
