HRC Editor's View

From The Editor : 2007 in review
Dec. 2007

It was a year for excitement, tragedy and relief.

The drag race season started with the tragic death of Eric Medlen, TF / FC driver . He was testing early in the season, and a bad crash took the young man's life. It affected everyone all season in the very close NHRA family. God Bless.

With out question everyone in drag racing watched as John Force's rear tire blew. Sending him out of control and into good friend Kenny Bernstien at 300 plus mph. I have talked to Kenny and he's fine ! To everyones relief big John will be ok. A true godfather to the sport of drag racing. Even in a wheel chair and busted up John made it to the last 2 races of the year. It will be great to see him back at it in 2008. Get well soon John.

It was time for Canadian drag race legend Terry Capp to get back behind the wheel once again. With long time friend Ron Hodgson, and a long list of old drag race buddies. They put together a TF nostalgia FC you might remember from past years. The Bubble Up funny car out of Edmonton back 1 more time! At the galla featuring the new car, who did I bump into. Top Fuel legend Roland Leong, calmly mixing a batch of racing fuel. It must sure be nice to have the Hawaiin funny car crew chief helping out with things. Good job and good luck guys!!!

Things sure have changed for local TF drag bike champion Kenny Kent. At the end of the 2005 season, Ken was unsure whether he wanted to continue racing. Well I'm sure glad things have improved! Starting with a Top Fuel bike title at the 2006 Rocky Mountain National's. He was proud to tell me this fall that he had won the CMDRA Top Fuel title for 2007. His first time since the 90's, good job!

Like anything new there was alot of heat on NHRA president Graham Light. The new point's schedule for the top sportsman classes was'nt that popular at first. But as we can see from the finals this year at Pomona. Keeping the top 4 driver's close means more action right up to the end. Actually this year in TF eliminator was a prime example of how well the new point's scheme works. With Tony Schumacher coming from 4th place in the point's, to winning the NHRA TF title on the last race of the year!! Race fan's are the winner's this time.

Lots of rodding action is coming in the near future. If you have a show&shine in your area please contact Brent@HOTRODCANADA.COM

Have a wonderful 2008 from all of us at HRC.
